About Gulshan Kumar Mehta

Gulshan Bawra was the pen name of Gulshan Kumar Mehta.

Throughout his career, he worked with many well-known music directors.

In movies such as Khel Khel Mein, Kasme Vaade, and Satte Pe Satta, he composed half of the songs.

R.D. Burman's songs 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti' in Upkaar and 'Yaari Hai Imaan Mera' in Zanjeer earned him the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award.

In 1973, the latter song was at the top of the annual list.

He had roles in several Hindi films as a character actor.

Gulshan Kumar Mehta was born in Sheikhupura.

Both of his families suffered in the partition riots, with Roop Lal Mehta's father and Chaman Lal Mehta's father being killed.

After being orphaned, he and his brother were raised by their sister.

They later moved to Delhi when his brother found a job there.

While in college, he started writing poetry.

He initially tried to secure a railway job but ended up in Mumbai as a clerk in 1955.

While working as a clerk, he pursued opportunities in the film industry.
