Robert Oliver Reed was an actor.
He began his career with notable roles in Hammer Horror films of the early 1960s, such as Bill Sikes in the 1968 film Oliver!, which won the Best Picture Oscar.
Reed received a posthumous BAFTA Award nomination for best supporting actor in 2000 for his performance in Gladiator.
In 1971, Reed was ranked as the fifth most popular actor at the box office.
The British Film Institute noted that Reed became an iconic figure in British cinema through collaborations with Michael Winner and Ken Russell in the 1960s, but his career was later affected by alcoholism starting in the mid-1970s.
Robert Oliver Reed was born at 9 Durrington Park Road in Wimbledon, southwest London, to Peter Reed, a sports journalist.
He was the nephew of film director Sir Carol Reed and the grandson of actor-manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and his mistress.
Reed claimed to have descended from Peter the Great.
